Righty starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy, righty reliever Doug Mathis and 32-year old righty swinging infielder Esteban German have all elected free agency over minor league assignments from the Rangers. 27-year old righty starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy pitched in 11 games (9 starts) in AAA-ball for the Rangers last year and he was 4-2 with a 3.36 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP. He pitched in 45 games (44 starts) in parts of three years for the Rangers and he was 13-15 with a 4.68 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP. I think some team is going to sign McCarthy to a minor league deal and give him a shot of winning a job in the starting rotation in spring training.
27-year old righty reliever Doug Mathis pitched in 13 games (0 starts) for the Rangers last season and he was 1-1 with a 6.04 ERA and a 1.84 WHIP. In parts of three years with the Rangers, Mathis worked in 45 games (6 starts) in which he was 3-3 with 1 save, a 4.84 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP. Mathis will get a minor league deal from some team this winter.
32-year old righty swinging infielder Esteban German played in 13 games for the Rangers last season and he was 3 of 13 (.231 avg, .606 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 1 RBI and 4 stolen bases. He played in 37 games in parts of three years for the Rangers and he was 20 of 63 (.317 avg, .783 OPS) with 17 runs scored, 0 homers, 6 RBIs and 7 stolen bases.
