25-year old lefty swinging Julio Borbon is going to get another shot as the starting CF in 2011. Borbon played in 137 games for the Rangers last season and he was 121 of 438 (.276 avg, .649 OPS) with 60 runs scored, 3 homers, 42 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. Borbon has the potential to hit around .300 with 30 stolen bases if he gets his act back together. He had 4 errors and 2 assists in 133 games in CF last season while showing excellent range. The Rangers’ best defensive alignment has Borbon in CF and Hamilton in LF and that’s likely the way the 2011 season will begin.
Josh Hamilton played in 40 error-free games in CF last season while showing slightly above average range. He also had 2 assists from CF. David Murphy can handle playing CF in a pinch as he played 10 error-less games there but he showed pretty awful range.
26-year old righty swinging Craig Gentry played in 20 games for the Rangers last season and he was 7 of 33 (.212 avg, .441 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 3 RBIs and 1 stolen base. He also played in 69 games in AAA-ball last season and he was 80 of 259 (.309 avg, .806 OPS) with 43 runs scored, 4 homers, 35 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. Gentry played in 7 error-free games in CF for the Rangers last season. With Gentry being 4th in line for P.T. in CF, I don’t look for him to get much time there in 2011.
