The Rangers have dealt 36-year old righty swinging infielder Michael Young and cash to the Philadelphia Phillies for 25-year old righty reliever Josh Lindblom and 22-year old righty reliever Lisalverto Bonilla. Young played in 156 games for the Rangers last year and he was 169 of 611 (.277 avg, .682 OPS) with 79 runs scored, 8 homers, 67 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Young played in 1,823 games in his 13 years with the Rangers and he was 2,230 of 7,399 (.301 avg, .791 OPS) with 1,085 runs scored, 177 homers, 984 RBIs and 89 stolen bases. Young was a seven time All-Star with the Rangers and he won 1 Gold Glove. Young is the Rangers’ all-time leader in games played (1,823), hits (2,230), runs scored (1,085), doubles (415) and triples (55). Young is also #9 in batting average (.301), #6 in homers (177), #3 in RBIs (984) and #5 in walks (532) in Rangers’ history.

The Rangers didn’t give Young away though as they got pretty good value back. Josh Lindblom pitched in 74 games (0 starts) for the Phillies and Dodgers last year in which he was 3-5 with 1 save, a 3.55 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. He has now pitched in 101 games (0 starts) in his first two years in the majors and he is 4-5 with 1 save, a 3.31 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. Lisalverto Bonilla came into the 2012 season as the Phillies’ #12 prospect. He pitched in 31 games (0 starts) in A+AA-ball for the Phillies last year and he was 3-2 with 4 saves, a 1.55 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP. He has now pitched in 84 games (35 starts) in his first four years in the minors and he is 16-13 with 8 saves, a 2.50 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. So the Rangers got an arm in the bullpen for now (Lindblom) and one for the near future (Bonilla) for Michael Young who could be nearing the end as an everyday player in the majors.
