The Texas Rangers yank Scott Feldman from the starting rotation

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Pitching BP by chinmusic on Tuesday 18 September 2012 at 12:43 pm

The Rangers have taken 29-year old righty starting pitcher Scott Feldman out of the starting rotation. Feldman has pitched in 26 games (20 starts) so far this year for the Rangers and he is 6-11 with a 5.32 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. Since August 1st, Feldman has started 8 games for the Rangers in which he is 1-5 with a 6.20 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP. The Rangers will replace Feldman in the starting rotation with 21-year old rookie lefty Martin Perez. Perez has pitched in 9 games (3 starts) for the Rangers so far this year and he is 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP. This is a lot of pressure to put on the kid, but it was the right move based in how poorly Feldman was pitching.

Yu Darvish has been pathetic lately for the Texas Rangers

25-year old righty starting pitcher Yu Darvish has been awful lately for the Texas Rangers. Since July 1st, Darvish has started 5 games in which he is 1-3 with a 6.82 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP. He has now pitched in 20 games (all starts) overall this year and he is 11-7 with a 4.38 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. The Rangers invested a lot of cash in Darvish last winter, so they are going to need him to step up and be the pitcher they thought he was going to be when they signed him.

The Texas Rangers remove Roy Oswalt from the starting rotation

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Pitching BP by chinmusic on Tuesday 31 July 2012 at 5:14 pm

The Rangers have removed 34-year old righty Roy Oswalt from their starting rotation. He will now be the long man in the bullpen. Oswalt has pitched in 6 games (all starts) for the Rangers so far this year and he is 3-2 with a 6.49 ERA and a 1.73 WHIP. He has given up 54 hits (7 homers) in only 34 2/3 innings this year while also walking only 6 batters and whiffing 29. This makes sense as Oswalt has been getting hit really hard since the Rangers brought him up.

Roy Oswalt is still shaking off the rust for the Texas Rangers

34-year old righty starting pitcher Roy Oswalt is still shaking off the rust for the Rangers. He has started 4 games for the Rangers so far this year and he is 2-1 with a 6.26 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP. Oswalt has given up 40 hits in his first 23 innings for the Rangers this year while walking 6 batters and whiffing 19. I think that Oswalt is going to get back into a good groove starting soon for the Rangers as he is throwing the ball really hard right now. Oswalt has now pitched in 343 games (330 starts) in his first 12 years in the majors and he is 161-94 with a 3.25 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP.

Scott Feldman has been awful for the Texas Rangers this year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Pitching BP by chinmusic on Thursday 5 July 2012 at 10:30 am

29-year old righty starter/reliever Scott Feldman has been awful for the Rangers so far this year. He has pitched in 15 games (10 starts) for the Rangers so far this year and he is 2-6 with a 6.11 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP. In his 10 starts, Feldman is only 2-6 with a 6.46 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP. They need him to step up and be the pitcher he was in 2009. In 2009, Feldman pitched in 34 games (31 starts) in which he was 17-8 with a 4.08 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. That season is starting to look more and more like a mirage. Feldman has pitched in 190 games (90 starts) in his first 8 years with the Rangers and he is 35-39 with a 4.86 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP.

Yoshinori Tateyama has been getting destroyed by opposing batters this year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Pitching BP by chinmusic on Sunday 3 June 2012 at 7:58 pm

36-year old righty reliever Yoshinori Tateyama should be placed on the D.L. due to whiplash with the way opposing hitters are whacking him so far this year. Tateyama has pitched in 5 games (0 starts) for the Rangers so far this year and he is 1-0 with a 15.19 ERA and a 2.25 WHIP. He has given up 9 hits (2 homers) and he has walked 3 batters in only 5 1/3 innings so far this year! Tateyama has now pitched in 44 games (0 starts) in his first two years with the Rangers and he is 3-0 with 1 save, a 5.66 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. Tateyama isn’t likely going to be with the Rangers much longer.

Yu Darvish is off to a rough start for the Texas Rangers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Pitching BP by chinmusic on Monday 16 April 2012 at 2:25 pm

25-year old rookie righty starting pitcher Yu Darvish was set up for success with his first two starts coming against the Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins, who have two of the weaker hitting lineups in all of baseball. But, he had a hard time with both of those lineups. He has started 2 games so far this year and he is 1-0 with a 4.76 ERA and a 2.21 WHIP. Darvish has given up 17 hits and walked 8 batters in his first 11 1/3 innings as batters are running up to the plate to bat against him. On the plus side, he has 9 whiffs and he has battled despite having a rough time. The Rangers hope that he straightens out soon, because they have invested a lot of money in him.

Alexi Ogando has been terrible as of late for the Texas Rangers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Pitching BP by chinmusic on Tuesday 6 September 2011 at 5:03 pm

27-year old righty starting pitcher Alexi Ogando has been terrible lately for the Rangers as he appears to be running out of gas. In his last 7 games (6 starts) for the Rangers, Ogando is 2-2 with a 6.90 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP. He has now pitched in 27 games (26 starts) for the Rangers so far this year and he is 12-7 with a 3.66 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. He has only given up 140 hits and 40 walks in his first 155 innings this year while whiffing 116, which is pretty impressive. With Scott Feldman back healthy, the Rangers might use Ogando out of the pen most of the rest of this year.

The Texas Rangers wish Derek Holland would be more consistent

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Pitching BP by chinmusic on Tuesday 9 August 2011 at 8:52 am

24-year old lefty starting pitcher Derek Holland is starting to go in the right direction this year. He has started 23 games for the Rangers so far this year and he is 10-4 with a 4.35 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. The Rangers wish he would be more consistent though as he is usually really good or really awful with little in between. Holland has thrown 4 complete game shutouts so far this season, which is very impressive, but in his other 19 starts he has a 5.85 ERA. Holland has now pitched in 70 games (54 starts) in his first three years for the Rangers and he is 21-21 with a 5.03 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. Holland has great stuff and he’s finally starting to get good results as he continues to learn how to pitch. If he ever masters setting up hitters, Holland will be one of the best starters in the American League down the road.

Rich Harden might be losing his grip on a rotation spot for the Texas Rangers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Pitching BP by chinmusic on Tuesday 10 August 2010 at 2:05 pm

28-year old righty starting pitcher Rich Harden might be on the verge of losing his spot in the rotation. Harden has started 15 games for the Rangers this year and he is 4-4 with a 5.45 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP. Harden has had huge issues with walks (50) and gopher balls (16) this year despite only pitching 74 1/3 innings for the Rangers. If he continues to pitch like garbage don’t be surprised if the Rangers yank him from the rotation and replace him with either Matt Harrison or Derek Holland.
